What’s the difference between “stable temperature” and “useful temperature” on LOX-8 Lubricant?

LOX-8 Lubricant is stable at cryogenic temperatures but freezes solid around -36 degrees F and no longer functions as a lubricant. LOX-8 is engineered to not break down or degrade as it moves through temperature ranges and will return to working as a lubricant when brought back up to temp.

Can Formula-8 be used with liquid and gaseous oxygen?

Yes, Formula-8 is liquid and gaseous-oxygen safe under ASTM G72-82 and G86 (NASA) testing standards.

Does LOX-8 Thread Sealant prevent galling of stainless steel fittings?

Yes, Lox-8 Thread Sealant is a tremendous anti-galling agent formulated to protect and lubricate stainless steel threaded connections.

Is LOX-8 Thread Sealant corrosive?

No, LOX-8 Thread Sealant is super hydrophobic and will prevent corrosion.

Are there any acids that will negatively impact the performance of LOX-8 Thread Sealant?

Will chlorine make LOX-8 ineffective?

No, LOX-8 Thread Sealant is approved by the Chlorine Institute (Pamphlet 164) for safe use in chlorine systems.

Can LOX-8 Thread Sealant and Lubricant be used in food processing and handling equipment?

Yes, LOX-8 Thread Sealant and Lubricant is NSF-approved for use in food processing areas and non-food contact.

In what range of temperatures will LOX-8 Thread Sealant continue to work?

Lox-8 Thread Sealant will remain stable from -400°F up to 500°F. As with all things at absolute zero, LOX-8 Thread Sealant gets hard but as the temperature begins to rise, LOX-8 will return to a paste.

Is the size or length of the thread a limiting factor with Formula-8?

No. Even fine threads in instrumentation systems are sealed effectively over the entire thread length.

Why is Formula-8 superior for hard-to-reach locations?

Because the paste “wets” the thread surface and cannot be accidentally knocked loose due to obstructed access or visibility.

Is Formula-8 easy to use?

Yes. All you do is coat the threads and immediately put the system back in service. There is no required curing time with Formula-8.

Can Formula-8 be used in food processing and handling equipment?

Formula-8 is NSF-approved for use in food processing areas, non-food contact.

When should I use Fluoramics’ other sealant product, LOX-8?

Use LOX-8 in wet or humid conditions and at higher pressures and temperatures.

Should I take any special precautions in handling Formula-8?

Yes, to avoid contamination, apply with a brush only used for Formula-8. Keep Formula-8 from freezing prior to application. During winter months, Fluoramics may put a ship hold on Formula-8 until temperatures are warm enough to ship.

Why is LOX-8 better than a cheaper substitute like tape?

The tiny particles in LOX-8 seal the microscopic cracks that tape cannot penetrate, so it’s much easier to apply correctly.

At what temperatures and pressures can LOX-8 operate?

Temperatures up to 450°F and pressures up to 10,000 P.S.I.

What is the difference between LOX-8 Thread Sealant and LOX-8 Lubricant?

LOX-8 Thread Sealant is thicker and therefore normally used to seal the threads in pipe joints.  LOX-8 Lubricant, being thinner, can also be used to lubricate bearings and other surfaces where severe oxidizers are present.

Does LOX-8 conduct electricity?

No, it is an insulator.

Is LOX-8 better than a silicone grease?

Don’t compare the two. Silicone grease should never be used in oxygen-reactive chemical service or around electrical contacts. LOX-8 should be used instead.

How does one apply LOX-8?

To avoid contamination, apply with a small, disposable stiff brush that is only used with LOX-8. When necessary, remove LOX-8 with several applications of an oxygen-compatible detergent or solvent.
