Formula-8 Paste combines the sealing properties of inert joint sealing with long-lasting durability and ease of application. There are several advantages to using Formula-8 rather than a thread sealing tape:

  • Formula-8 doesn’t shred, which means it will not jam valves or plug orifices. Formula-8 was actually engineered in 1967 to solve the problem of tape shards plugging up orifices.
  • Size or length of thread isn’t an issue. Formula-8 effectively covers even the finest threads.
  • Formula-8 is a paste which “wets” to the threaded surface and will not be accidentally dislodged, even when the joint is assembled in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Easy to apply. Won’t unwrap or dislodge, and you don’t need to be concerned about the direction of the wrap.
  • It’s simple to break and re-make joints with Formula-8. Just add more paste over the existing material.
  • Whereas tape can stretch and allow cold-flow, Formula-8 retains its consistency over time.

As you can see, Formula-8 has several advantages over thread-sealing tapes.

Here are some tips for correctly using Formula-8 in various applications:

  • Oxygen Service: Tested and approved.
  • Vacuum Service, Hydraulics, Gasoline and Hydrophobic Systems: Apply to threads and allow to dry.
  • Cast Iron: Be careful to not over tighten. Formula-8 lubricates so well it’s easy to split fittings by over tightening.
  • Food Service: Formula-8 is NSF-approved for use with food in non-contact areas.
  • Service Temperatures: -400 degrees F to +500 degrees F.
