In this guide, we’ll show you how to clean and lubricate a fishing reel to keep it in top condition using Tufoil Lubit-8.

Materials Needed:Use Lubit-8 Dropper Tip Bottle for maintaining your fishing reel.

  • Clean rag
  • Spray bottle filled with clean water
  • Small screwdriver
  • Tufoil Lubit-8®

Step 1: Cleaning the Reel

  1. Remove Loose Sand and Dirt:
    • Spray water on one end of the rag
    • Lightly wipe down the reel to remove salt deposits and sand
    • Perform this step after every fishing trip
  2. Dry the Reel:
    1. Use the dry end of the rag to dry the reel

Step 2: Cleaning the Reel Handle

  1. Disassemble the Handle:
    • Unscrew the cap or unwind the handle
    • Remove the handle and locate the bearings
  2. Lubricate the Bearings:
    • Apply a small drop of Tufoil Lubit-8 on each bearing
    • Reassemble the handle and lubricate the threads inside the handle
  3. Lubricate Jointed Handles:
    • Unscrew the joint and place a drop of oil in the joint

Step 3: Spool Maintenance

  1. Remove the Spool Cap:
    • Screw off the spool cap and set the spool aside
    • Ensure the shaft is at its highest point
  2. Lubricate the Shaft:
    • Apply a small amount of Lubit-8 on the shaft
    • Spin the reel a few times to distribute the oil
  3. Clean the Spool:
    • Check for dirt or debris and use compressed air to clean it

Step 4: Cleaning the Bail and Roller Bearings

  1. Lubricate Bail Joints:
    • Add a drop of Lubit-8 to each moving joint of the bail
    • Apply Lubit-8 on the screw and joint, then open and close the bail to distribute the oil
    • Wipe off excess oil with rag
  2. Clean and Lubricate Roller Bearings:
    • Remove the screw and roller bearing carefully
    • Apply a drop of Lubit-8 into the bearing cap
    • Ensure the surface where the line comes off is clean
  3. Reassemble the Roller Bearing:
    • Place the roller bearing back inside the reel and tighten the screw

Step 5: Final Touches

  1. Prevent Corrosion:
    • Place a small drop of Lubit-8 on either side of the reel base before attaching it to the fishing rod
