Missing the Big First Catch
A (Fictional) Story of Grandpa Taking His Young Grandson Fishing for the First Time
Prologue
Lubit-8®, a Tufoil® Technology Lubricant product, is a premier lubricant with numerous applications. Summer fishing season is fast approaching, and some fishing rods that haven’t been used for several months might have sticky reels. It’s important to ensure your fishing tools of choice are in tip top condition before hitting the water in search of the season’s first catch.
Below if a fictional example of a novel, endearing experience between a grandfather and his grandson, and how Lubit-8 allowed for a lifelong memory to happen.

Brendan turned four years old recently, and his parents are taking him to Grandpa and Grandma’s house for the weekend to go fishing for the first time.
He’s talked non-stop about the weekend for months knowing he would finally get to hit the water with Grandpa now that he’s old enough.
Grandpa has a special fishing pole all the grandkids use on their first fishing experience. It’s the first pole he used as a young kid years ago, and it brings him a lot of pride and joy seeing his beloved grandkids use his pole for their first fishing experience.
After pulling into Grandpa and Grandma’s driveway, Brendan hops out of the car suited up with his lifejacket and fisherman’s hat, eager to hit the water, but is told he must wait until after dinner.
“The fish won’t bite in the middle of the afternoon little guy; we have to wait until after dinner!” Grandpa said. “Plus, it’s bad luck to hit the water on an empty stomach.”
“We’ll let’s hurry up and eat dinner then!”
After eating dinner, Grandpa and Brendan walk down to the shed by the lake. In it are dozens of fishing rods, life jackets, and countless fishing equipment. Grandpa walks to the back of the shed and pulls out an old camouflage fishing rod, three-and-a-half feet in length, with a cork handle. It hasn’t been used in years.
He hands it to Brendan, who is wide-eyed and awestruck.
“This fishing rod has reeled in more fish than I can count,” Grandpa said. “With some good luck, hopefully you’ll bring a few in tonight! Are you excited!?”
“Yes, I am Grandpa! Now let’s go!”

Out on the water, Grandpa helps Brendan bait his first hook, shows him how to cast the line, and tells him to keep his eyes on the bobber. He hands him the rod and the waiting game begins. Five minutes go by. Ten minutes. Still nothing.
“When are they going to bite, Grandpa?” Brendan said.
“Have patience little guy, sometimes they take a while. Flick your wrist lightly to jig your rod, that might help catch their attention.”
Another five minutes go by, and Brendan finally feels a tug on his rod. His bobber disappears under water, and Brendan shrieks.
“I got one, Grandpa!” he said.
“Okay, now start reeling it in!”
However, there’s one small problem. The reel is sticky after not getting used for several years, and Brendan struggles reeling in the fish.
“I can’t do it, Grandpa! Help!”
Grandpa grabs the rod from Brendan and attempts to reel in the fish, but he struggles too. The fish gets away.
“Grandpa! That would have been my first fish! And you let it get away!”
Disappointed that Brendan’s first potential catch got away because of a sticky reel, Grandpa cheers him up by telling him there’s plenty more fish out there and that he’ll get one tonight.
“I need to do something quick to fix your rod,” Grandpa adds.
He reaches into his tacklebox and grabs his .25 oz. Tufoil Lubit-8 Pen Oiler, applies it to the fishing reel, and spins it a few times so the lubricant spreads, ensuring the reel won’t stick again and cost Brendan his first catch.
Some time passes, and after a few close calls, Brendan finally reels in his first catch – a plump walleye perfect for frying. Grandpa takes the fish off the hook and looks at Brendan.
“I’m proud of you Brendan, you did it. Go ahead and toss it in the bucket with the other fish. When we get back to the house, we’ll put them in the freezer and eat them for dinner tomorrow.”
Brendan’s smile stayed glued to his face for the rest of the weekend.
And if Grandpa didn’t keep a .25 oz. Tufoil Lubit-8 Pen Oiler in his tacklebox, that smile would likely be a frown and Brendan might not have had the experience of catching his first fish that weekend.
