NASA Testing

LOX-8 was tested at the NASA White Sands testing Laboratory. LOX-8 was subjected to a two-part test.

  1. Auto-ignition...for temperature
  2. Mechanical Impact for pressure

The results were spectacular!

In the Auto-ignition test, it was confirmed that LOX-8 can withstand temperatures over 800F/450C. In the Mechanical Impact test, it was confirmed that LOX-8 can withstand a pressure limit over 3000psi without a hint of reactivity.

Read the details below.

Autogenous Ignition Temperature Determination in High-Pressure Oxygen (AIT Test)

ASTM G 72-82 - - - - - WSTF #00 - 35803

Test material: LOX-8 Oxygen-safe Paste

Test consitions:

  • Test atmosphere: 100% oxygen
  • Initial test pressure: 10.34 MPa (1500 psia)
  • Heating rate: 60 to 260°C (140 to 500°F)
  • Range 5+/ - 1°C (9+/ - 2°F) per minute greater than 260°C (500°F): >3°C (>5°F) per minute

Observations and Comments

The ASTM G 72-82 auto-ignition temperature-rise criteria is 20°C (36°F). No auto-ignitions were observed for Samples 2 and 5 up to 454°C (850°F). However, rapid temperature increase was observed at 442°C (827°F) for Sample 2. The temperature increase was 13°C (24°F) and the pressure increase was 0.23 MPa (33 psi) for Sample 2.
